Honey Ginger Limeade Digestive Aid Drink

We aren’t what we eat, rather, we are what we digest! Solid digestion enables your body to maximize nutrient absorption, which is essential to your cycling performance and overall well-being.

Ginger and lime awaken your digestive tract and can help soothe your stomach. Limes are also high in Vitamin C, which may help boost immunity, another benefit since you are more likely to get sick after a hard block of training or a hard race. Lastly, honey contains a diverse source of minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants. Try to buy locally sourced raw honey to make sure you’re reaping the natural benefits of this ingredient.

Try sipping on this Honey Ginger Limeade drink first thing in the morning, after a long ride, or before you eat a big meal.

Ingredients

4 cups water

2-inch piece of fresh ginger, sliced into pieces

2 limes juiced

¼ tsp fine sea salt

2 Tbsp raw local honey

Directions

Bring the water to a boil in a pot over high heat. Placed chopped ginger directly in the pot. (If you have a tea ball you can use that as well.)

Turn the heat to low, cover, and let simmer for 20 minutes

Remove ginger pieces or pour water through a strainer into a wide-mouth pitcher or large mason jar glass. Let cool. Stir in the lime juice, honey, and sea salt.

Keep in the fridge and serve at room temperature for optimal digestion.

Personal Story

I had stomach issues a few days into the Breck Epic, a 6-day MTB stage race in Breckenridge, CO. My stomach issues happened right after I finished a stage or first thing in the morning when I woke up. A drink like this one was the answer to my stomach woes. Try sipping on this drink first thing in the morning, after a long ride, or before you eat a big meal to ensure your body can properly absorb all the nutrients you're about to feed it!
