Date Turtle Bark
An easy, no-bake sweet treat. This Date Turtle Bark features flavors from the classic Turtle candy, but instead is made with Medjool dates, Tahini Maple Carmel, extra dark chocolate, and a pinch of flaky sea salt to top it off. Make it last minute for a holiday gathering or for a quick, sweet bite when you need it most!
Ingredients
20 Medjool dates
½ cup pecans
Pretzels
Big pinch of flaky sea salt
1 (3-oz) chocolate bar, 70% dark chocolate or higher
Maple Tahini Carmel
¼ cup maple syrup
¼ cup tahini
⅛ tsp ground cinnamon
Directions
Line a small baking sheet with parchment paper.
Slice dates in half and remove the pits. Press them close together, cut side up, onto the sheet to form the base.
Cover with another sheet of parchment paper on top. Press down with a spatula and your hand, the bottom of a glass, or a cutting board to flatten the dates evenly. Make sure there are no gaps between them.
In a small bowl, stir the Maple Tahini Carmel ingredients together. Spread the mixture evenly across the flattened dates with a spatula. Then sprinkle the pecan pieces in a single layer across the top.
Melt chocolate and coconut oil together in a microwave-safe bowl. Melt in 20-second increments and stir together until smooth. Make sure not to overcook!
Pour the melted chocolate on top of the smashed dates and tahini. Spread with a spatula to evenly coat the date bark. Sprinkle with a fat pinch of flaky sea salt.
Place the baking sheet in the freezer for at least 30 minutes. Take out of the freezer and break up or chop into pieces.
Store leftovers in the fridge or freezer.
