5 Ingredient Sourdough Pop-OH-vers
Once you put these babies in the oven you’ll see why I call them Pop-OH-vers!
This was my first time using the sourdough starter I got from Little Red Hen Salida while visiting.
A combination of crisp crust and soft inside makes this a wonderfully comforting treat for us carb lovin’ cyclists. Plus, the sourdough starter gives them just the slightest tang.
5 ingredients. Mix the batter together. Put them in the oven and POP! OH MY! You have fresh sourdough popovers made in 30 minutes.
Serve 'em up plain with butter, as a side to soup or salad; or slather them with nut butter and jam for a sweet treat.
Let’s get it poppin’!
Ingredients
1 cup almond milk
3 large eggs
1/2 cup sourdough starter discard
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup White Bread Flour (I used my flour from Little Red Hen Salida)
Directions
Warm the milk in the microwave or a small saucepan until it feels slightly warm to the touch.
Combine the warm milk with the eggs, sourdough starter and salt, then mix in the flour. Don't over-mix; a few small lumps are OK. The batter should be thinner than a pancake batter, about the consistency of heavy cream.
Heat a muffin pan in the oven while it's preheating to 450°F.
Remove the muffin tin from the oven, and spray it thoroughly with non-stick pan spray. Quickly pour the batter into the cups, filling them almost to the top. Space the popovers around so there are empty cups among the full ones; this leaves more room for expansion.
Bake the popovers for 15 minutes, then reduce the oven heat to 375°F and bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
Remove the popovers from the oven and serve immediately.
